Robert (Rob) Hugh Richardson
June 11, 1954 – May 7, 2024
Passed away peacefully at home after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Belleville on June 11, 1954 to Mabel McDougall and Wilfred Dodge Richardson. Stepson of Joe Rickard and James (Jay) Walsh.
Rob spent most of his academic career in Belleville with a brief number of years in Port Credit. Post secondary years at Loyalist College and Fanshawe College.
Loving husband of 45 years to Laurie (Murphy) Richardson. Always remembered and loved by his children: sons Lee (Ashley) Victoria, Del (Ashley) Tweed, daughter Lauren (Nick Boyd) Calgary, and son Brett Belleville.
Brother of Carol (Bernard) Walsh, Mabel Richardson, Kathy MacInnis. Step brother to Mary (Gerry) Vezina, Carol (Brian) Stipe, Catherine Taylor, Martin (Linda) Walsh, Jim (Lisa) Walsh.
Brother-in-law to Mike and Mary Anne Murphy, Pat and Paula Murphy, Mary Lynn and Dan Brant, David and Julie Murphy, Sheila Thompson, Karen and Brian Milligan, Barbara Lloyd and Jim Wood, Tim and Marleen Murphy.
Predeceased by step sisters Bernadette Hazelwood, Sheila Walsh, brother-in-law Chris Murphy and in- laws Harold and Eileen Murphy.
Proud grandpa of Jayden and Ethan Richardson, Finley and Henson Chevrier, Arianna, Oliver and Koen Richardson, Adalyn, Natalie and Alanna Boyd and Grady Richardson.
Will be missed by 32 nieces and nephews.
His career at Procter and Gamble as a Process Technician spanned over 30 years. He maintained a strong connection to people from P & G and rarely completed an errand without coming across a co-worker and reminiscing while children waited impatiently. A real conversationalist who could engage anyone in a casual discussion or a debate on almost any topic.
A great love of hockey was always exhibited by the coaching of his children and the critique and pointers after his many trips to the arena to watch grandkids play. Most recently he quite enjoyed coaching in the Tweed girls pick up hockey program.
An avid hunter, Rob spent valuable time at hunt camps in Huntsville, Madoc and Tweed. His camera at home was monitored closely in preparation for the hunting season. Unfortunately or fortunately, many deer managed to escape his hunting prowess.
His love of nature was constantly demonstrated by his lengthy, and to many people exhausting walks throughout the property that he truly loved. He built trails that could be walked, used for dirt bikes and the four wheeler rides that his best pal Viking the red border collie would run forever.
Rob’s appreciation of family and friends was immeasurable. Many Sundays at the Salmon River in younger years generated great family time swimming, playing baseball and fishing. He valued his time spent particularly with good friends like the Greers- canoeing and camping or having a good card game and a cold beverage.
A liturgy of the word will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Holy Name of Mary Church, Marysville. A luncheon and celebration of life will follow at Fish and Game Club, Elmwood Drive Belleville, from 12pm until 3pm. Internment at Belleville Cemetery at a later date.
Donations to Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, War Amps or Tweed Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.
