Nola Ileen Simmons (nee Krueger), age 95, passed away on August 17th, 2024 in Uxbridge, Ontario. She will be deeply missed by her loving family. She will also be remembered as a dedicated teacher, who taught for many years in Trenton, Ontario.
Born on December 22, 1928, in rural Zurich, Ontario, Nola spent many years inspiring and educating students of all ages. She started out teaching in a one-room schoolhouse and ended her career doing speech remediation and as a school librarian in Hastings County School Board.
Nola lived most of her life in Trenton, Ontario. She married Hugh Simmons in June of 1951 and continued to teach and raise three daughters. She is predeceased by her husband, three siblings and their spouses. She was a “Super Mom” before the term even existed. She taught school, sewed for her girls, enjoyed gardening, canning and baking. She and Hugh spent many vacations camping and her daughters were lucky to see most of Canada and many of the U.S. states in their travels. She and Hugh were members of the Officer’s Mess at CFB Trenton and many good times were spent there, celebrating events. She loved to drive and travelled several hours on her own up until she was 89 years of age.
Even though she had an extremely busy life, Nola made time for volunteering. She managed the Community Concerts in Trenton and was awarded The Cora Bailey Award for her tireless work with the Retired Women Teachers of Ontario. Nola spent countless hours working with the Ladies’ Club of the Officer’s Mess and for many years was the Superintendent of St. George’s Anglican Church Sunday School.
Nola will be tremendously missed by her daughters, Laurel (Daniel), Heather (Rick), Roselyn (Earl), her three granddaughters, Diana, Nicola and Liesel, her great-grandsons, Ryder and Zachary, and her dear friend, Peter Unger.
Nola lived an incredible life. She was admired by her family, colleagues and friends alike. She will be remembered as a highly successful woman throughout her 95 1/2 years. A Life Well Lived.
Visitation for Nola will be held at Weaver – East, 29 Bay St., Trenton on Saturday September 14th, 2024 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Interment St. George’s Cemetery.
