Helen was born and raised on a farm in Oak Heights, west of Warkworth. She married Louis King in 1948 and they resided in Roseneath where she taught at the public school. In 1950 they purchased the farm beside where she was raised from Les and Mary Hermiston (her sister). That same year their son Robert was born on her birthday, July 12th. They lived at that farm until 1976. Helen taught at Hastings and Warkworth public schools during that time. They bought property from George and Alice Potter (her brother) and built a new house in 1977. Helen retired after 39 years of the career she loved. Every student was special and she enjoyed hearing from them. She loved music, family and friends, her church, and of course Apple Pie.
