It is with the deepest and most profound sadness that I announce the passing away of Gordon Ambrose Fleming, peacefully at Hospice Quinte on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the age of 70, with his beloved and devoted wife by his side.
Gordon was truly a gentleman among gentlemen. There was not a person who ever met him who wasn’t immediately charmed by his gentle nature and soft-spoken ways. He was always smiling, kind and giving. He was easy-going, intelligent and funny, a real pleasure to be around and a joy to live with. He was a romantic through and through and loved quiet dinners, dancing, long walks and holding hands. All the mushy stuff. In these last nine years he was battling a vicious foe, Alzheimer’s disease. Sadly, this cruel disease took him away from us little by little until we were gifted with only an occasional glimmer of his former self.
He will be tremendously missed by his wife of 32 years Cynthia Victoria, his brother-in-law, John Habibi & spouse Sue Weir, nephews Ryan Habibi and Brandon Habibi & spouse Emily, sister-in-law Judy Maude, brother-in-law Paul Ming & spouse Marlene and his many loving friends and compassionate support worker angels (you all know who you are).
For most of Gordon‘s working career he worked at Chubb Insurance Co. of Canada, personal lines Underwriting Associate. After retirement, he obtained his RIBO license and worked for several companies as a broker. His ability to work well with clients and coworkers alike served him well. His hobbies included reading and collecting sci-fi books, bowling, watching movies and a love of nature especially dolphins. Although not blessed with children, for 10 years his big black lab Wilee brought him much happiness. Gordon had an adventurous nature. He traveled to exciting destinations and was always willing to try a new experience. He truly lived an enriched life. I will miss my dear Gordon, my love, my companion, my soulmate, my friend.
Gordon will be cremated and interred at York Cemetery in Toronto. There will be a celebration of life announced at some point in the summer. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Alzheimer’s Society Hastings-Prince Edward. A remarkable organization that from the very beginning, helped us navigate the murky waters of dementia. A sincere thank you and gratitude to: Quinte@Home Program, Home & Community Care Support Services South East, VON Hastings Northumberland Prince Edward, Paramed, Bayshore Health Care and Hospice Quinte.
