Snelling, Evelyn …with sad and heavy heart I had to say goodbye to my mother Evelyn Bernice Snelling (nee Hickerson) who passed away on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Crown Ridge Nursing Home in Trenton, Ontario in her 95th year. Born December 30th, 1924 in Trenton Ontario, she is predeceased by her beloved husband William Snelling, sons Douglas and Wayne Snelling, loving parents Carrie & Everett Hickerson, brothers Claude (Shirley) and Jack Hickerson and sisters Dianna Royer and Muriel Wilson (Walter). A loving mother survived by Dianna Bonnett and son-in-law Larry and daughter-in-law Laurie Snelling. Loving Nannie to Chris Snelling (Kristina) and Andrew Snelling (Josh Oenema) and loving Great Nannie to Mason and Hannah Snelling and Landon Oenema. Survived by brothers James Hickerson (Carol), Doug Hickerson (Georgina), brother in law George Royer, sisters Jean Chestnut (Cecil), and Carol Greig (Larry) and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was raised in Trenton, attended College Street School and was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Trenton. She was a dedicated Sunday school teacher, president, secretary and life-time member of the Women’s Missionary Society, leader of Explorers, card secretary, member of the session and was coordinator of any events within the church. Evelyn was custodian for St. Andrews from 1971 to 1990. Evelyn dedicated her time visiting her friends and church members in hospital, their homes and nursing homes. Evelyn loved playing euchre with her sisters and with the seniors at Crown Ridge. Evelyn also enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and going to their games, even getting hit by a baseball on the knee at a Blue Jays game. She also loved watching figure skating. Evelyn loved travelling with her husband; going to the Holy Land twice, going on cruises and travelling in Europe. Evelyn loved being a wife and mother, she was a fantastic cook and baker, she was a great mentor and we loved her dearly and will miss her immensely.
I want to thank and give gratitude to the Nurses, PSWs, Dr. Mason, Suzanne the Nurse Practitioner and all the Life Enrichment staff with the activities at Crown Ridge Nursing Home.
Visitation will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 16 Marmora St., Trenton on Wednesday, June 19th, 2019 from 12pm-1:30pm, with funeral service following at 1:30pm. Interment Mt. Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lung Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Online condolences at www.weaverfuneralhomes.com
