Eugene Bright passed away peacefully at Broadview Nursing Centre in Smith Falls, Ontario, on April 29, 2024 at the age of 94 years. Beloved husband of Elisabeth Hamm. Loving father to Dale (Jen), Marilyn (Ron), Elaine (Jeff), Kairiin (Glen), Gregory (Carolyn), and Valerie. Loving brother to Joyce Latchford, Lorraine Bell and Lyle. Cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. Valued by his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Eugene was predeceased by his parents Kenneth Ray (Ray) and Charlotte (Lottie) Bright, his first wife, Marian, and by his siblings Morley, Clinton, Arlie and Iona.
Eugene attended University of Toronto where he earned a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education, and a Masters of Education. He worked as an elementary school teacher, a professor at Lakeshore Teachers’ College, and a school principal.
Eugene enjoyed construction, travel, reading and games. A frequent winner at Scrabble into his 90’s, he also excelled at SkipBo and other card games. He loved to spend time with family and friends, far and wide. He told wonderful stories that brought joy and laughter to all those in his presence.
Family & Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Calvary Bible Church, 15 Beech Street, Smiths Falls, Ontario K7A 3V3 from 12 – 1 PM. The service will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person: bit.ly/EugeneBrightMemorial . Light refreshments will follow. A private family burial will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Campbellford, at a later date.
