The union for information department services workers at Quinte Health Care claims the employer hasn’t given them a chance to upgrade their skills.
The transition to electronic documentation of patient health records means some employees may not meet the requirements for the electronic data work.
Service Employees International spokesman Don Burshaw says the restructuring idea surfaced two years ago, and staff could have upgraded themselves if they had known what was going to happen. An earlier report said at least two of the nine affected workers had filed grievances, but Burshaw says the number is actually eight, and a complaint has also been made about the process.
