The Ministry of Environment, Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Quinte Conservation are all keeping an eye on the long awaited cleanup at one of Belleville’s biggest pollution hot spots. Crews have finally started repairing the damage caused at the old Bakelite property on east Bayshore by property owner Jim Sinclair. GM of Quinte Conservation Terry Murphy says they’re very pleased to see the court order being enforced following the conviction of Sinclair on numerous environmental charges…which include allowing PCB’s to flow into the Bay of Quinte. All of the repairs to the shoreline are being paid for by Sinclair. It’s expected to take a week to get the silt out of the embayment and another week to remove a road that Sinclair installed…and crews will be on site for about a month. Sinclair was fined over 600-thousand dollars and spent four months in jail in connection with the offences.
