The city’s proposed location of the Zwicks Island Pavilion isn’t music to the ears of Belleville musician Ken Stapley. The man who started it all….is unhappy that the new million dollar Pavilion project may be moved from the present bandshell site. Stapley and his committee first proposed the project three years ago…and he wants it near the current bandshell and natural amphitheatre and tree covered hill which would provide some shelter from the sun. Last night, the committee had a chance to see the design for a pavilion on a new larger site that would allow for a new stage and dressing rooms. Stapley likes the original location because of its proximity to the hill…but, will be meeting next week with city staff to try and work out a compromise. Stapley’s committee has raised 100-thousand of a 150-thousand dollar share of the 900-thousand dollar pavilion. The city’s share is the same…senior governments picking up the rest.
