The Hastings and Prince Edward Health Unit has handed out five awards to recognize efforts in making the community smoke free.
Tyco Thermal Controls Canada received the workplace award for going above and beyond the provincial standards. But it’s not only big guys ….grade eight student Alexis Rushlow of Pinecrest Memorial School in Bloomfield was also a winner. Alexis, a public speaking winner, told her fellow students that each cigarette you smoke takes seven minutes off your life…and you need that seven minutes. Other winners were Balu Patel of Balu’s Pharmacy and the cities of Belleville and Quinte West for their recreational smoke-free bylaws. .
