One of the two men who had proposed to develop a strip club in Belleville has been released from jail in connection with a car theft case. 36-year old Robert Moniz of Montreal appeared in court yesterday and was released on bail with conditions which include staying out of Belleville and Montreal unless appearing in court. Moniz was arrested outside Belleville city hall on Monday evening as he left a city council meeting. He was charged with theft over five-thousand dollars…a Mercedes car. He will appear in Belleville court next on February 11. Moniz also faces 20-mortgage fraud charges in Montreal. Last fall, the city rejected the proposal by Moniz and his brother Carlos to open a strip club in the former Doc’s Palace on Station Street.
