Stirling-Rawdon Township will not make an immediate donation to Haitian Relief Efforts.
Mayor Peter Kooistra told the last council meeting the municipality should give five-thousand dollars to help rebuild the earthquake shattered country, and issued a challenge to other Ontario communities to match the pledge of one dollar per resident.
However, the township’s finance and personnel committee voted against the idea yesterday, saying Stirling-Rawdon residents should donate only what and if they want, not through their municipal government. Kooistra says a concert may still be organized for this summer to raise money for the work in Haiti.
