It was a busy night at CFB Trenton as the first flight left the local base to help in earthquake ravaged Haiti. The federal government has committed an immediate five-(m) million dollars in humanitarian assistance. A C-130 military transport plane arrived on the island yesterday with an assessment team, and a C-17 cargo jet took off from 8-Wing early this morning carrying a helicopter, personnel and tonnes of supplies of food and water. Base Public Affairs Officer Lieutentant Annie Morin says orders from Ottawa are changing by the minute as the base acts as the transport hub for equipment and materials for the relief mission. Morin says they are awaiting word from Ottawa…on if…or when…the DART team will be deployed to assist.
