A tough decision last night by Prince Edward County Council. In two separate closed door sessions, Council decided not to go after the citizens group, Electors of Prince Edward, for the 118 thousand dollar cost of a recent Ontario Municipal Board hearing into changing ward boundaries. The OMB decided in favour of Council. Councillors voted 12 to 4 against going after the money. Mayor Leo Finnegan says most on Council felt they’d never get the money, and that it would hurt general morale in the community. Electors spokesman Lyle McBurney says the matter has created a lot of stress, and the group will not appeal the OMB decison. Some in the public gallery were not happy with Council’s decision, saying it could lead to more people forcing expensive OMB hearings.
