The issue of buying an automated bus stop announcement system for Belleville’s transit system is back before City Council today.
The proposal was put on hold at the last council meeting in December when Mayor Neil Ellis said he’d prefer one with a G-P-S system that would let residents find the exact location of a bus so they could time their arrival at a bus stop.
However, that option would come with a much higher cost, doubling the price, so the tender presented to council last month will be recommended for approval this afternoon.
City staff had picked a 160-thousand dollar bid from Strategic Mapping, which will be paid for from gas tax revenue.
