Conciliation talks for a new contract for unionized employees of Hastings County will continue tomorrow.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union and County management met for the first time with a Ministry of Labour conciliator in Belleville yesterday, at the same time as an information picket was held outside the county building.
Union official Dianne Dejong says both sides made some movement, but she couldn’t disclose what issues were discussed. More information on the status of the negotiations is expected early next week. Eighty-seven per cent of the workers who voted on tuesday night are in favour of strike action if necessary.
There are 184 county workers represented by OPSEU. They have been working under the terms of their old contract since it expired at the end of 2008.
