It will be difficult to determine how many ice huts are on the Bay of Quinte this winter.
Fisheries Technician Dale Dewey says the Natural Resources Ministry has cut funding for aerial and on-ice surveillance this year.
He says even though the shacks won’t be counted, enforcement officers will be checking anglers to ensure they’re following the regulations.
Dewey says it is still early, but he thinks there are about the same number of huts on the bay as in early January in other years.
