One of the opponents of disbanding the Tudor and Cashel Township fire department says the destruction of a house in Millbridge is a perfect example of why council made a mistake.
Robert Fieldhouse was one of many people in the municipality, north of Eldorado, who objected to council’s decision last year to eliminate the fire department and sign contracts with Madoc Township and Limerick Township for coverage.
He isn’t critical of Madoc firefighters, who had to drive a distance to battle yesterday’s blaze, which started in the chimney of the home on Old Hastings Road, but he says the old fire department had a small station and crews right in Millbridge, and personnel could get to any location in Tudor and Cashel in five to ten minutes.
