In special session this afternoon, Belleville City Council awarded the design and building contract for the multi-million dollar multiplex recreation centre.
The project, next to the Quinte Sports Centre, includes two NHL size ice pads, an eight-lane pool, and a number of other recreation facilities. City Council voted unanimously for the lowest bid, Atlas Corporation of Toronto at 27-point-8-million. Mayor Neil Ellis says the centre will be the size of Walmart and the envy of many other cities. Mayor Ellis says the Atlas proposal was the best value for the money … a bigger and more efficient building. Senior governments are picking up two-thirds of the price tag.
