Ontario is setting up 19 new family health teams, including one in Northbrook, to provide more access to family health care.
The teams are for communities with high numbers of patients without family doctors, and are expected to be up and running by sometime in 2011.
They’re made up of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers and dieticians, and the Northbrook team will be set up at the community’s Medical Centre..
The goal of the teams is to help reduce hospital emergency department use by providing non-emergency care. The province has promised to set up 50 new family health teams and 25 new nurse practitioner-led clinics over the next three years.
