A bid by Belleville businessman Jim Sinclair to establish a scrap metal yard on College Street east has been put on hold. Last night the city’s Planning Committee tabled the rezoning application until some conditions are met. Planning chair Tom Lafferty says there are concerns about the environment….a water course in the area and the condition of the land itself. The committee wants Sinclair to settle the enviironmental issue with the Ministry of Environment before it would consider the rezoning. Sinclair has just completed a jail term on environmental charges.
