There’s no support on Prince Edward County Council for stopping taxpayer subsidies to the Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre. Since 2006, Prince Edward Council has granted over 300 thousand dollars to keep the gym afloat. 60 thousand dollars is budgeted for next year. Ameliasburg ward Councillor, Diane O’Brien thought Council should stop the subsidies because the Fitness Centre did not serve the whole County, just the south end. Without some other government grants, and Council’s help, the Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatics Centre could lose close to 100 thousand dollars next year.
