Girl Guides Canada is closing almost half of its Ontario camps, including two in the Quinte area.
Plans are underway to mothball 16 camps, including Camp Pine Ridge, on Helyer Road, west of Trenton, and Camp Waupoos in Prince Edward County.
Ontario’s provincial commissioner said operating 33 camps in 2008 ran the organization into a 1.4-million-dollar deficit.
Guiding in Canada is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
