Northumberland County Council has deactivated the highway 4-0-1 detour route along County Road two between Colborne and Cobourg, in favour of a more northerly option.
County Council voted yesterday to have traffic taken off the 4-0-1 when it’s closed by an accident or bad weather moved to County Road 25, Centreton Road and County Road 45.
The original County Road two detour route was established ten years ago, but there is always heavy traffic whenever the 4-0-1 is shut down.
Northumberland officials believe there won’t be as much congestion if vehicles are detoured to roads well north of the highway..
