Millhaven Institution, southeast of Napanee, is in lockdown while Correctional Service of Canada staff continue an exceptional search.
Assistant Warden Wayne Buller says a fight broke out in a group of inmates returning from the recreation yard on Friday evening.
Staff fired warning shots and deployed chemical agents to gain control, but they weren’t able to get the offenders to return to their cells from the yard until five hours later.
Staff searched and found seven handmade weapons from the yard, and all visits are cancelled while the lockdown continues for the rest of this week.
