Snow removal in Quinte West is going to have a different look next year. Quinte West City Council decided last night night to change the way they do things when it comes to clearing snow from city roads. The City has decided not to renew it’s contract with William T Cooney at the end of the 2009/2010 winter season. Instead… the city will purchase 7 trucks of their own… and hire 7 new employees to operate them. While it’s an investment at the present time… it’s going to pay off in the future. City staff say it will save Quinte West about 950 thousand dollars in the long run. Councillors also made it clear… the decision had nothing to do with the service they had received… it’s simply a cost-cutting measure.
