It might be your money that pays for the clean up of nuclear waste in Port Hope.
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission on Friday granted a five year permit approving the cleanup of low-level radioactive waste at the former Eldorado nuclear site in Port Hope.
Eldorado, now privately run under the name of Cameco, was a federal agency when it used the now contaminated site and studies suggest it will be the federal government that foots the bill for the clean-up.
Reports on the amount of toxic waste vary from one to two (m) million cubic metres.
A Port Hope-based citizens group suggests it could cost up to a thousand dollars per cubic metre to clean up the 70-year-old mess.
