A 61 per cent increase in just one year in the number of Employment Insurance recipients in the Belleville area.
Statistics Canada says 2,270 people got benefits in July, the last month information was available for, compared to just 1,410 in the same month last year.
The number of e-i claimants in Ontario was up by almost 75 per cent over the same 12 month period.
