A Picton man…..charged with murdering a young Picton mother earlier this month….was being hailed as a hero this spring in Pembroke. The Daily Observer quotes 32-year old Mark Chapman as saying he left a friend’s apartment and was on his way to his own apartment in May when he noticed a fire and started kicking in doors and pulling nine people to safety. 60-people, including Chapman, were left homeless after the massive blaze. Chapman and Kevin Ruttan, of no fixed address, were charged last week with first degree murder in the death of 26-year old Steffany Gardiner. He body was found on the beach at Papineau Lake September 19th.
