Belleville’s volunteer firefighters will soon be fighting fires in new up-to-date gear. Just over fifty-thousand dollars will be taken from Thurlow reserves to buy twenty-eight new gear. Fire Chief Ray Chaput says the pants and coats have a mosture barrier layer to protect the firefighters from five of the most common chemical hazards and liquids. He says it’s a “core life-saving piece of equipment for them.” Chief Chaput says some gear has already been replaced for the career firefighters…regulations indicate the gear lifespan is ten years.
