Fire code violation charges have been laid against former Belleville Mayor George Zegouras over his property at 51 Victoria Avenue..
Fire prevention officer Lyle Quennell told our newsroom the six charges, including failing to ensure smoke alarms were maintained and in operating condition, and failing to ensure emergency procedures were posted and maintained at each floor, could carry fines as high as 50-thousand dollars and/or one year in jail.
The charges were laid after a number of factors were considered.
Quennell says Zegouras was in provincial offences on Tuesday , and the case was adjourned to October sixth.
