It seems Belleville City Council just isn’t into ‘counting your calories.’ The Ontaro Medical Association wants municipalities to join the campaign to have the province require “calorie counts” on menu boards in chain restaurants and school cafeterias. But concillor Jackie Denyes says it’s costly and just like another tax. Councillor Tom Lafferty argued that although it says chain restaurants it will eventually “filter down” to small businesses. And Councillor Bob Dolan told council thousands of people don’t know what calories are and “don’t care.” Council decided not to support the campaign.
