A Trenton-area man with lots of experience on the tractor is the top V-I-P plower in Hastings County.
Farm Show and Plowing Match public relations spokesman Jim Haggerty says Quinte West councillor and longtime farmer Ron Hamilton won the celebrity plowing competition against five other competitors yesterday.
Faraday Township Reeve Carl Tinney was second, and Belleville Mayor Neil ellis finished third..
Haggerty says another highlight yesterday was the oldest plower competition, with 104-year-old Gerald Swan of Bayside coming first, and his 88-year-old son-in-law, Carman Huffman, finishing second.
Day one of the show drew 98-hundred visitors, and the gates today, featuring the crowning of the Queen of the Furrow, are open until 4-30 this afternoon.
