A 12-million dollar “cultural centre” proposed for Picton has received support-in-principle from Prince Edward County Council.
The three-pronged plan calls for a half-million dollar upgrading of Picton Public Library, and two other projects. Prince Edward County Mayor Leo Finnegan says seating at the Regent Theatre will be expanded, and a cultural centre will be built between the Regent and the library, in privately-owned space. The idea is to have the project financed by federal, provincial and private money, through an application for federal stimulus funding. Mayor Finnegan says, if this is successful, the cultural centre won’t cost the County a cent.
