Some encouraging news from the Hastings County Social Services Department.
The number of people on welfare fell last month for the first time since November of last year.
Just over 36-hundred people got assistance in July, down by 28 from June, but still 734 higher than in July, 2008.
The Employment Connection Program helped 214 people get jobs last month, offsetting the trend of increasing applications for benefits.
