The president of the union representing guards at Warkworth medium security institution says the riot Tuesday night is an example of why changes need to be made.
Jason Godin of the Union of Canadian Correctional Officers told our newsroom that the profile of people being held at “medium” institutions has changed….now many are young, violent and members of gangs. Godin is trying to get shotgun training for the guards and have them carry pepper spray, and he wants some changes in the screening process of the Warkworth inmates.
