Jobs in Quinte area retail, manufacturing, and construction went down the drain in June, causing a significant jump in the number of people going on welfare.
Deputy Director of Hastings-Quinte Social Services, Steve Gatward, reports a twenty-four-point-six percent increase in the number of people on benefits last month compared to the same month a year ago. And the caseload rose nearly four percent between May and June of this year. There were a total of three-thousand-633 people on welfare in June.
