Some defence lawyers from Belleville, Trenton, Picton, Napanee, Brighton and Kingston are now refusing to accept legal aid certificates on behalf of people accused of various serious crimes.
The 27 lawyers have joined a protest that began on June first when 300 criminal lawyers in Toronto stopped taking legal aid certificates for homicide and gang cases.
Kingston defence laywer Michael Mandelcorn says they consider the legal aid program to be broken.
