18:00 hrs – Provincial police confirm the bridge has reopened.
Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte have again seized the Skyway Bridge.
Tyendinaga Mohawk Police are saying only that they’re working toward a resolution with the protesters…with help from provincial police.
One witness says she’s seen some of the damage done by protesters to the reserve’s “peace officers”.
Brandy Walsh says she’s counted the bullet holes in the chief’s car herself…and that she fears for her family’s safety.
Police arrested an original group of protesters early this morning (FRI)…after what they called lengthy negotiations.
Tyendinaga Police say they were accompanied yesterday by up to one hundred community members as well as O-P-P officers…in attempts to get the protesters to open at least one lane of the bridge.
One of the protesters on the scene is Tyendinaga resident, George Zachariah Junior.
He says this morning’s arrests turned violent.
Zachariah says protesters had intended to take the barricades down peacefully after a community meeting scheduled for 9 a.m. but as a result of the violent arrests, that meeting never happened.
