Belleville has seen a big spike in the number of impaired drivers charged in the first quarter of 2009. Stats were presented to the city’s Police Services Board, today, indicating 31 motorists were arrested for drinking and driving in the first three months….up from 10 last year. Police Chief Cory McMullen says local residents have played a role in those arrests. McMullen says she’s concerned about the increased numbers and will be working on educating the public about the dangers of impaired driving.
