The story of the eight year old boy discovered with clothes on fire on a Prince Edward County roadway has taken a new twist.
A passing motorist spotted the boy fully ablaze, walking along a road in Long Point Sunday morning. An ambulance rushed him to hospital expecting to meet an air ambulance. Director of Emergency Services, Doug Socha, says the helicopter was five minutes from landing in Picton when it was diverted to another call. Socha says the child was in immediate need of acute care. Now Socha’s working with the hospital to find out why the helicopter was diverted, and if policies can be changed to avoid the situation in the future. The boy was eventually air-lifted to The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto with burns over 70-percent of his body.
