The following was submitted by Kingston police:
On the afternoon of March 12, 2025, a female victim utilizing the Rideau Trail system between the north end of Queen Mary Road and the south end of Parkway was accosted and then sexually assaulted by a male not known to her.
The victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury which required medical attention as a result of the attack. The incident was reported to police and an investigation was initiated.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division Sexual Assault Unit were able to identify the suspect as being an inmate on statutory release at the time of the offence.
On March 13, 2025, the accused Wayne Mumford, was arrested and charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement and have face mask/disguise. Along with having his parole suspended, Mumford was transported to Kingston police headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing.
