It’s a muddy mess right now but construction is underway on a big new apartment building in Belleville’s west end.
Excavation has begun on a $28 million 3 storey 84-unit building just south of Aldersgate Village
west of Avondale Road.

What will be known as Epworth Place will feature 54 one-bedroom and 30 2-bedroom apartments and will
be for seniors 65 years of age and up only.
55 percent of the units will be affordable, meaning the rent will be set at 80% of the area’s
market rent as determined by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
Due to the affordable housing component of the building CMHC is paying about $1.4 million of the cost and Hastings County is providing
around $1 million with the remainder of the cost to be paid back to CHMC in the form of a low-interest loan.
Executive Director of Aldersgate Homes Amy Elliott says there will be no problem filling Epworth Place as the
Aldersgate Village already has a wait list of 500 hoping for an apartment.
Construction is being handled by Elbee Construction headed by Andy Spry along with partners.
The building is expected to be complete by the summer of next year.
