American President Donald Trump and his threatened 25 per cent tariffs are not only being discussed by federal and provincial politicians, they’ve also been a major consideration for municipal decision makers.
Mayor of Stirling-Rawdon Bob Mullin says council has decided to buy the steel decks of three bridges the municipality will have to replace in the relatively near future before any rise in steel prices.
“So we’ve saved 25% on the cost of the bridges themselves. We may or may not get any of them installed this year, that will depend on budget but we’ve locked in the price when we do.”
The bridge decks are being made by a Northern Ontario company and will be engineered to fit structures needed on Wellmans, Bedford, and Green Roads.
The cost of the decks is $510,000.
