HELMER, Joyce Elizabeth – Today I have left this earth to spend life in my heavenly home with my Lord and Saviour, how wonderful for me. Miss me for a bit if you wish but take great solace that I am at peace, so to those of you left behind I bid you a fond adieu. I have gone to be with my husband Dennis, my mom and dad, Borden and Dorothy Humphrey, my siblings, Dale and Leonard Humphrey, Norma Cross, Darlene Cromwell, and Mona Nixon. I’ll also be reunited with my great nephew Parker, along with my in-laws. Life was grand with my surviving siblings, Gwen Orr (William), Paul Humphrey, Barry Humphrey (Cheryl), Robert Humphrey (Wendy), Donna MacDonald (late Bruce), Janet Doughtery (Steve), and Joan McKay (Joe). Left behind are Joyce’s husband’s children, Darlene (my step-daughter), Corinna and Chad Helmer, along with grandchildren, Benjamin, Stephanie, Lillian and Levi. I grew up in Schumacher, and graduated from Roland Michener. I worked in Timmins for a few years and then headed to Toronto where I spent 10 years. After leaving Toronto, I went to Calgary for one year before returning to Timmins where I met my husband. Before, and along with my husband, I was blessed to have travelled quite a bit for which I am thankful. I worked 5 jobs throughout my working career and enjoyed them all. At the age of 62 I was forced to retire due to health reasons. After the death of my husband in 2016, I moved to Belleville (2019). This was a good move for me as all the specialists were nearby as well as my siblings. To my friends (you know who you are), thanks for all the memories, laughs and shoulders to cry on. In 1998 I became a Christian and enjoyed many years worshipping at First Baptist in Timmins, then Maranatha and The Free Methodist Church in Belleville. I believed strongly in the Gideon’s and their work in distributing the Bible throughout the world so if you wish, you can place a donation to their cause or to a charity of your own choice, which would be appreciated. Services organized by the family will be held at the Free Methodist Church (Belleville Centennial Church), 135 Avondale Road, Belleville, on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025 at 2:00 p.m., with family receiving friends at the church one hour prior to service. A private burial will take place at a later date in Timmins beside my husband at the Pine Street Cemetery. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Steele Funeral Home, Belleville (613-968-2273).
