Prince Edward County Mayor Steve Ferguson says they’ll be meeting with Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria and Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Peter Calandra during the upcoming Rural Ontario Municipalities Conference in Toronto.
With Minister Sarkaria, they’ll discuss a proposed roundabout at the intersection of County Road 1 and Highway 62.
“And stressing to the Ministry the need to get that constructed as soon as possible. I don’t think it’s a matter of if that roundabout will be constructed, a matter of when. And I think everybody knows, that intersection presents a hazard.”
They’ll also chat about the portion of Main Street that abuts George Wright Boulevard in Picton.
The County would like to see that part of the road downloaded to the municipality so they can deal with issues pertaining to that part of the roadway rather than going through the provincial government process.
Ferguson says the state of County Road 49 always remains a topic of discussion but they won’t be chatting much about it at the conference.
The County is awaiting word on whether the province will approve a $20 million grant the County has applied for for reconstruction work.
He is optimistic they will get it.
He adds they will also continue to lobby the federal government to fund a portion of the total $52 million price tag.
In another meeting at ROMA, the PEC delegation will meet with the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Paul Calandra to discuss the status of Ministerial Zoning Orders for Picton Terminals and Base31.
Joining Mayor Ferguson at the ROMA conference are councillors Chris Braney, Bill Roberts, Phil St. Jean, Sam Grosso and Sam Branderhorst along with CAO Marcia Wallace.
The conference begins Sunday.
