A new filmmaking policy is in the works for Prince Edward County.
During Thursday’s Committee of the Whole meeting, the committee considered a new policy regarding filming for movies or television series in the county.
The policy is designed to set in place procedures for handling interactions between the municipality and filmmakers, and lay out what permits filmmakers may need for certain activities. The new policy is intended to help attract more filmmakers to film in the area, and as a result spend money on local accommodations and services while there.
Under the proposed policy, filmmakers will be able to apply for permits to film in public locations and receive assistance from the municipality for road closures or similar measures. The costs to the municipality for these services would be paid by the filmmakers. The new policy will also require insurance for the production, in the event of damage caused by filming.
The committee voted to adopt the policy and sent the policy to council for final approval.
