A Stirling farm is receiving money from the provincial and federal governments to increase milk production and improve pasteurization efficiency.
Up to $200,000 will go to the Ontario Water Buffalo Company through the Dairy Processors Modernization Initiative, which provides cost-shared funding to dairy processors to help improve efficiency, capacity and food safety.
“Our government values small farms and farmers,” said Ric Bresee, MPP for Hastings – Lennox and Addington. “Initiatives like this are another example of how our government is working to improve food security and support small farmers in their efforts to expand their operations.”
“Government works! We’re grateful to the Ontario government for helping to support our operations,” said Ontario Water Buffalo Company owner Martin Littkemann. “With this funding we can improve efficiency and streamline our operations, increase food traceability, and create new jobs for our community.”
The Dairy Processing Modernization Initiative is still accepting applications from cow, goat, sheep and water buffalo milk processors until the program is fully subscribed.
Funding (up to $200,000 per recipient) can be used to help cover the cost of new or refurbished equipment, training and more.
The governments of Ontario and Canada are investing up to $8 million in the initiative through the Sustainable Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP).
