A traffic stop in Marmora and Lake Township has resulted in drug trafficking charges.
A Central Hastings OPP officer conducting speed enforcement on Matthew Street late Sunday night stopped a pickup truck travelling more than 70 kilometres per hour in a 50 zone.
The motorist was found to be a suspended driver and was arrested on multiple counts of prohibited driving.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of quantities of suspected cocaine, suspected hydromorphone pills, contraband cigarettes, over $400 in cash and items typically associated with drug trafficking.
An unidentified 45-year-old man from Trent Hills has been charged with:
Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
Fail to comply with a probation order
Failure to comply with a release order
Operation of a vehicle while prohibited under the Criminal Code – two counts
Driving while under suspension – three counts
Speeding
Driving with liquor readily available
Possession of unmarked cigarettes
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing in Belleville on Monday.
Thirty-seven-year-old Kristen Archer of Peterborough, has been charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking.
This accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on January 20.
