The Belleville Senators defeated the Springfield Thunderbirds 5-2 at CAA Arena Saturday night.
Wyatt Bongiovanni, Oskar Pettersson, Xavier Bourgault, Jan Jenik, and Stephen Halliday scored for the Senators.
The Thunderbirds took the first goal of the night, before the Senators came back late in the frame for back-to-back goals, taking the lead.
The Senators built on their lead with the second period’s only goal, just 20 seconds into the frame.
In the third, the Senators grabbed two more goals. While the Thunderbirds scored once, they couldn’t catch up, giving the Senators the win.
Belleville Senators head coach Dave Bell said that maintaining the team’s discipline was important to how they played.
“That was one of the keys. I love emotion and you have to use your emotions, but it’s controlled emotions. Last night, we didn’t have it, tonight, the guys channelled it in the right direction. They bit their tongue or took a slash and consequently, we used the whole bench, the energy stayed up and the result is what we wanted.”
The Senators will return after the holiday break.
